Ziryab →
Ziryab was a Kurdish or Persian polymath in the 9th century. This guy has quite the impressive resume with accomplishments that affect us to this very day.  He was a poet, musician, singer, cosmetologist, fashion designer, celebrity, trendsetter, strategist, astronomer, botanist and geographer! Amazing! He popularized short hair and shaving regularly. He also came up with nice-tasting toothpaste...

Finally got around to finishing reading the Watchmen. The ending to the graphic novel is far more satisfying to me. I’m not entirely sure why they changed it for the movie.

His...

American political doublespeak has its own nature that I’ve gotten accustomed to analyzing and trying to translate. This morning, on my way to work, my phone was out of battery life so I couldn’t skim through my netvibes news feeds. Not being content in just staring out the...

The Marathon: in review
On sunday, December 5th 2010, I ran a 42.195km marathon in a little more than 6 hours. From this experience, I’ve learned quite a bit. (map) The marathon started at 5am, Singapore time, in front of ION on Orchard road, Singapore’s shopping district. All the Christmas lights were up, the music on the PA was The Final Countdown (video) and a really loud Australian man was the...

It is widely understood that the composer’s name is spelled “Tchaikovsky” in roman characters. They assert implicitly that this is the correct way to romanize such a name. This is incorrect. The Cyrillic is spelled Чайковский, beginning with the affricate “Che” or “Cha”. (more here). In the more German romanization there is a T, but there is also an...
